I’ve been a sneaker collector for years and its very frustrating to see how things have changed. In the past the ‘Sneakerhead’ culture was a niche group and most people didn’t understand why others would camp out for sneakers. Now it has become much more popular and next to impossible to land even one pair with releases selling out each week.
What’s your opinion on the whole sneaker culture?
This Saturday, 2/8, Nike is set to launch the next installment in Kobe Bryant’s Signature shoe line, the Nike Kobe 9 Elite.
Inspire by Manny Pacquiao and his boxing boots, the boot-like Kobe 9 is a radical change from the low tops of the last four Kobe shoes. The Kobe 9 is also the first basketball shoe to feature Nike’s Flyknit technology, which has previously been used only in running models.
With Kobe out due to a knee injury, Nick young was the first to debut the sneaker on court against the Miami Heat. Others such as JR Smith and Amare Stoudemire have worn the ‘Masterpiece’ in game as well.
Each year Kobe’s shoes are some of the best performing models on court, the video of JR Smith below may be an indication that we can expect the same from these.
What is your opinion on the Kobe 9 Elite? Could this be worn for casual wear or should it stay on the hardwood?
